A little history
When Top Choice Awards began surveying the Portuguese community of Toronto back in 2004 the process was very simple. It began with research to identify the most popular categories in the community and elect 5 businesses or professionals as the nominees in each category. Once the field had been narrowed down it would be the job of the people to vote for one of the nominees in each category.
Today
Since those days a lot of things have changed at Top Choice Awards! With the birth of our multicultural, national and international surveying some people might say things are "complicated" but we prefer to say "interesting". We thought about running a survey for each combination of country/city/community, we even started a separate voting website called www.EnterVote.com. In the end we discovered a couple of interesting things:
- Voters only cast one vote at a time
- Voters are smart, they register to vote for very specific reasons
- A single survey is a lot easier to handle, which means we have more time to focus on promoting our winners and growing our company
Solution
Create a single survey that can be used to cast one vote in any country, city and community. Put this survey on the Top Choice Awards website so voters don't have to jump back and forth. We even thought up a great way to use Twitter to allow social voting. After a little testing the results turned out great! We now have more voters than ever and they continue to tell us how much easier the voting process is.
